Stop Waiting on Motivation, Start Creating It

Inspiration and motivation have a place in moving us towards our goals.

But I’ve learned that we often put them in the wrong place.

Meaning, we often assume that we need to feel inspired and motivated BEFORE we can consistently take action towards something.

But we’re actually more likely to be inspired and motivated when we take consistent action FIRST.

Because taking action (especially small actions) and learning from that action reduces fear.

And fear is ultimately what gets in the way of inspiration and motivation.

When we reduce fear through action, we often feel more inspired and motivated to take further action.

This means that inspiration and motivation are too capricious to depend on.

Because we can’t always convince ourselves to feel inspired or motivated when we feel fear. But we can still act even when we feel fear.

We don’t need to wait for inspiration and motivation in order to take action.

We start the cycle of feeling motivated and inspired when we take action first.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where in your life are you struggling to make a change?

  2. What small action could you take towards the change you want?

  3. How are you avoiding the actions you could take?
